Preparation and Maintenance

Preparation

Shower and Exfoliate

12-24 hours in advance

Showering and exfoliating before a spray tan is essential for a few key reasons:

  1. Removing Dirt and Oils- Showering helps remove any dirt, oils, sweat, and makeup that may be on your skin. This ensures that the spray tan solution can adhere properly to your skin and not be hindered by impurities.

  2. Exfoliating Dead Skin Cells- Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells that could cause the tan to apply unevenly. If you have rough patches or dry skin, it can result in a patchy or blotchy tan.

  3. Smoother Skin- Exfoliating leaves your skin smooth, which allows for a more even tan. If you skip this step, the spray tan may cling to dry, rough spots, leaving you with a less uniform result.

  4. Longer-Lasting Tan- Clean, exfoliated skin helps the tan last longer because there’s less buildup of oils or dead skin that might cause the tan to fade prematurely.

Preparation

Shave

12-24 hours in advance

Shaving before a spray tan helps create a smooth, even surface for the tanning solution to adhere to, resulting in a more flawless and longer-lasting tan. Here’s why it’s important:

  1. Prevents Uneven Absorption- Hair can cause the tanning solution to cling unevenly, leading to patchy or streaky results.

  2. Exfoliation Effect- Shaving acts as a mild exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and allowing the tan to develop more evenly.

  3. Avoids Shaving After- Shaving after a spray tan can cause the color to fade faster, as it exfoliates the top layer of skin where the tan develops.

Day of...

What to wear...

Avoid any skincare products the day of your tan. Wearing skincare products like lotions, oils, perfumes, and deodorants before your spray tan can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution. For best results, arrive with clean, product-free skin, avoid sweating, and skip showering on the day of your appointment.

During your tan, wear what makes you feel comfortable (thong, swimsuit, or go nude)

After your spray tan, wearing dark, baggy clothing is important to protect your fresh tan and ensure the best results. Here’s why:

1. Prevents Smudging & Uneven Development

2. Avoids Staining Light Clothes

3. Allows the Tan to Breathe- Loose fabrics reduce friction and allow the tan to develop evenly without pressure points or imprints.

4. Keeps You Comfortable

Maintenance

Moisturize

Moisturizing after a spray tan is essential to keeping your tan looking fresh, even, and long-lasting. Here’s why:

  1. Prevents Dryness & Flaking – Dry skin sheds faster, which can cause your tan to fade unevenly or become patchy. Keeping your skin hydrated ensures a smooth, flawless glow.

  2. Extends the Life of Your Tan – Hydrated skin retains color longer, helping your tan last several days more than it would on dry skin.

  3. Enhances Even Fading – A well-moisturized tan will fade naturally and evenly rather than blotchy or streaky.

  4. Maintains Skin Health – A spray tan can be slightly drying, so keeping your skin moisturized helps it stay soft, supple, and glowing.

Best Moisturizer Tips

  • Use an oil-free, hydrating lotion (oils can break down the tan).

  • Moisturize at least twice daily, especially after showering.

  • Avoid products with harsh chemicals or alcohol, which can strip your tan.
